Interior styles have names, but most homes are a mix. Still, naming your style helps you make choices in the Canvas Builder, because each style has a few preferences you can borrow. Here is a quick guide to four of the most common.
Scandinavian
Scandi rooms are light, simple and calm. They use whites, greys, pale woods and a little black. In the Builder, choose a white or pale canvas with black or soft grey lettering, a smooth surface and subtle raised lettering. Left alignment feels modern, and short words feel at home.
Bohemian
Boho rooms layer colour, pattern and natural texture. A canvas can add calm among the busyness, or join in. Warm, earthy colours, such as clay and sage, suit the style. A textured surface fits the handmade mood, and centre alignment feels relaxed. A gentle, personal phrase works better than a slogan.
Industrial
Industrial rooms use dark metals, brick, concrete and worn leather. A dark canvas with light or metallic lettering fits perfectly. Choose bold raised lettering for weight, and keep the words short and direct. Our guide to dark walls and black canvases covers this look.
Traditional
Traditional rooms favour warmth, symmetry and classic details. Choose a cream or soft white canvas, with centred lettering in a deep, muted colour. A textured surface adds depth, and a short, heartfelt phrase, such as a family name or a line about home, feels at home. Our gallery’s Always & Forever is a good reference.
If your style is mixed
Most people live in a blend. If so, choose the style of the room the canvas will hang in, not the whole house. Or choose the most neutral options, such as black on white or tonal textured white, which work across styles.
Let the words match the mood
Each style has a voice. Scandi prefers plain words. Boho prefers poetic ones. Industrial prefers blunt ones. Traditional prefers warm ones. If your words do not match the room, the room usually wins, so choose words that sound like the space.
Try the combinations
The quickest way to see what works is to try it. Open the Builder, set your words, and change the colour, surface and alignment one by one to see which feels most like your room.
